Inspirational Report #36

1. I Dug 100 Holes in Miami Beaches to Find Treasures

Section titled “1. I Dug 100 Holes in Miami Beaches to Find Treasures”

Miami’s beaches are some of the most visited in the world, meaning thousands of items are lost in the sand every single day. For this short, set a massive challenge: dig exactly 100 holes in a high-traffic area like South Beach or Las Olas. Build a montage of “trash vs. treasure,” escalating until you find a “big” discovery like jewelry or a watch (props) in the final holes.

Hook: “Today, I’m digging 100 holes in the most famous beach in Miami to see if I can find enough lost treasure to pay for my entire trip.”

With the soccer craze hitting Miami and the World Cup coming up, it’s the perfect timing for a soccer-inspired short. For this short, investigate a “tip” about a missing Inter Miami or World Cup-style trophy hidden near Chase Stadium. Travel between locations and use detective gear and knowledge to scout the area. Depending on what route you want to go, you can either fail in finding this missing trophy or locate it in an abandoned building or a beach shore.

Hook: “Today, I was walking downtown Miami when I came across a flyer looking for a missing soccer trophy…“

3. I Tried to Sail to the Bermuda Triangle

Section titled “3. I Tried to Sail to the Bermuda Triangle”

Miami is the gateway to the Bermuda Triangle. For this comedic short, use a small budget and items you find on the streets to build a sailboat and try to “sail” toward the triangle from a Miami beach. How far away can you get?

Hook: “Today, I’m going to try to sail to the Bermuda Triangle, because I always wanted to go as a kid, and now that I’m in Miami, it’s the closest I’ve ever been to it…“

Instead of going to a commercial aquarium, for this short create your own tank using items found in Miami’s wild waters. Get a big tub to fill with salty water and use magnets to find “sunken decor” (old rusted gears/chains from underwater). Then add rocks and shells and finish assembling the aquarium by fishing real wildlife, like tiny fishes, starfishes and other sea creatures (and obviously return them back to the real ocean afterwards).

Hook: “Today, I wanted to get tickets to go to The Miami Aquarium, but it was too expensive, so I decided to build my own using only things I found at the bottom of the ocean.”

I’m not entirely sure if this is an April Fools Day joke or not, but apparently there’s a ton of missing KitKats. So, for this short, head to Miami’s shipping ports and other sketchy parts of Miami to try and find the KitKats. Record yourself investigating suspicious crates or abandoned areas. You can either have no luck on your search or (if you manage to contact KitKat or other candy retailer or store) find a stash of chocolate!

Hook: “Millions of KitKats were just stolen in Florida, so I knew I had to get my hands on the case before they melted in the Miami heat…“

Miami is known for luxury hotels, but “wild” camping is the ultimate discovery challenge. So, inspired by this TikTok, for this short try to find the best camping location in Miami, trying to set a tent and sleep in beaches, parking lots, abandoned buildings and maybe in the everglades too. Record the struggles of the process and use a drone to show the contrast between your “jungle” camp and the glowing Miami skyline in the distance.

Hook: “Hotel rooms in Miami are $500 a night, so I’m heading into the swamp to see if I can find a 5-star camping spot for $0.”

Miami doesn’t always have big waves, but it has plenty of “trash.” For this short, find a discarded piece of wood or a “foam” material in a dumpster on Lincoln Road. Use any tools you’ve got in hand to carve it into a “surfboard” shape. Lastly, head to South Pointe Pier and try to see if a $0 board can actually catch a Miami wave.

Hook: “I wanted to go surfing in Miami but a new board costs $800… so I’m building my own out of trash I found in a dumpster.”

For this short, let’s reverse the “Discovery” pillar by creating a discovery for someone else. For this video, create a time capsule with 2026 memorabilia (a brand new iPhone, some World Cup merch, trendy/popular candy and food, etc) and then seal the capsule and travel around Miami to find a “permanent” hiding spot in a park or near a historic landmark. Don’t show where you bury it, instead, leave a “secret clue” on the short (or maybe in another short) for your followers.

Hook: “Today, I’m burying a secret time capsule somewhere in Miami, and the first person to find it gets to keep everything inside.”

With the hype for the next GTA, “Vice City” (Miami) nostalgia is at an all-time high. For this short, go explore an abandoned 80s-style motel or arcade with the goal of finding a one-of-a-kind gold copy of GTA Vice City. The goal of the short is to edit the footage with a vintage/VHS Tape aesthetic and include as many references to Vice City as possible.

Hook: “Today, I’m on a mission to find a one of a kind copy of GTA Vice City for my best friend, because this is his favorite GTA game and his birthday is coming up…”
