Budget-Friendly Short Form Ideas
Section titled “Budget-Friendly Short Form Ideas”Note: The following ideas are focused on things you can do, for less than $100 and in a short time frame, in The Strip.
1. I Went Magnet Hunting Outside Every Love Chapel in Vegas
Section titled “1. I Went Magnet Hunting Outside Every Love Chapel in Vegas”Las Vegas is the wedding capital of the world, famous for Elvis-themed elopements and quick “I do’s.” So, for this short, head to the sidewalks and public drainage grates directly outside the most iconic wedding chapels on the Strip. Use your magnet and a small reach-tool to see if you can recover lost wedding rings, jewelry, or “cold feet” mementos left behind by nervous couples.
Hook: “They say what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, but today I’m magnet fishing outside the wedding chapels to see how many rings people actually lose before getting married.”
2. First to Get to the Other Side of the Strip Wins
Section titled “2. First to Get to the Other Side of the Strip Wins”The Las Vegas Strip looks walkable, but between the crowds, the pedestrian bridges, and the heat, it’s a logistical nightmare. For this challenge, I thought you could hop on this format that’s slowly growing in popularity. The goal is to race your friend from the “Welcome to Las Vegas” sign to the Stratosphere. And the rules? There’s no rules! Each one of you gets $50 USD to complete the challenge as quick as possible.
Hook: “The Las Vegas Strip is only 4 miles long, but it’s impossible to cross. So, today, my friend and I are racing to the other side to see which way is actually the fastest.”
3. I Fooled My Family into Believing I Left the Country
Section titled “3. I Fooled My Family into Believing I Left the Country”The Strip features world-class replicas of the Eiffel Tower, the Egyptian Pyramids, and the Canals of Venice, amongst other bizarre things. That’s why, for this short, you’ll take high-quality photos at each landmark, edit out the Nevada background, and send them to your family group chat. The goal is to see how long it takes them to realize you aren’t on a world tour, but actually just in the middle of the desert.
Hook: “Last week I escaped home to come visit my friend in Las Vegas, and I haven’t told my family. So now I have to make them believe I’m actually on a working trip, or else I’m gonna be in huge trouble…“
4. I Tried to Hack the Vegas Sphere
Section titled “4. I Tried to Hack the Vegas Sphere”The MSG Sphere is the largest screen on Earth. For this short, use your phone and creative editing (or the Sphere’s interactive features) to see if you can “project” your own face onto the screen. Is it actually possible to have your channel featured in the Sphere? Depending on the logistics, this idea can be more of a humoristic sketch, or a real attempt to see how easy (or difficult) it is.
Hook: “Today I’m going to hack my face onto the Vegas Sphere, because I want to send a shoutout to my grandma for her birthday from the coolest place in Las Vegas.”
5. I Found the Best Elvis for My Grandma
Section titled “5. I Found the Best Elvis for My Grandma”For this short, use your budget and a time limit to walk around the Strip to find the most authentic impersonator of Elvis in the city. Visit the street performers on Fremont Street and the professional chapels to “audition” them. The final goal isn’t just a photo, but getting the “King” to sign a personalized souvenir to send back home to your grandma, his biggest fan.
Hook: “My Grandma’s favorite singer of all time is Elvis Presley, so today I’m hunting down the best impersonator in Las Vegas to get her the ultimate birthday surprise.”
Short Form Area 51 Ideas
Section titled “Short Form Area 51 Ideas”Note: The following ideas are focused on things you can film on Area 51.
6. I Wrote a Letter to Aliens (And Delivered It)
Section titled “6. I Wrote a Letter to Aliens (And Delivered It)”Believe it or not, near Area 51 there’s a mailbox for “aliens”. So, for this short, prepare a package to send them! Write them a letter asking them to reach out to you when they get the package, and prepare a box filled with your own treasures, in a pen-pal exchange of sorts. Then, last but not least, head to the mailbox and deliver the package. (You can absolutely film yourself putting the package on the mailbox and then finish recording the short at home as you “pack” what you’re going to trade with the aliens! This idea can have a follow up short for Halloween when you get a package back from the Aliens)
Hook: “Today, I’m heading to the most restricted border on Earth to deliver a message to the only people who might actually be listening: the aliens at Area 51.”
7. I Tried to Find the Weirdest Souvenir in Area 51
Section titled “7. I Tried to Find the Weirdest Souvenir in Area 51”For this experiment, the goal is simply to find the most “authentic” or weirdest piece of Area 51 merch available. You can begin the video visiting real open gift shops to then move on to abandoned sites and get deeper and deeper into the desert, in order to find something truly alien-looking.
Hook: “Today, I’m heading to the town closest to Area 51 to see if I can find a souvenir for my grandma, who asked for the strongest evidence of Aliens I can find.”
Long Form Field Experiments Ideas
Section titled “Long Form Field Experiments Ideas”Note: The following ideas are focused on things you can start filming/producing in Nevada.
8. I Hunted for the Other 50 “Areas” in the USA
Section titled “8. I Hunted for the Other 50 “Areas” in the USA”If the government named it “Area 51,” logic dictates there must be an Area 1 through 50 hidden across the country. So, for this video, go on a hunt across the country to try to find at least one of them. This long-form experiment starts at the gates of the Nevada site, where you investigate why it’s numbered 51 and search for clues pointing to the “other” sites.
Hook: “The name Area 51 implies there are at least 50 other secret locations just like it in America… and today, I’m starting a journey to find every single one of them… or at least one.”
9. I Visited a Country Inside the US (Republic of Molossia)
Section titled “9. I Visited a Country Inside the US (Republic of Molossia)”Located just a few hours from Vegas is a “Micronation” called the Republic of Molossia, which has its own borders, currency, and laws. This field experiment involves crossing an international border without tecnically leaving the U.S, and explore one of the oddest places on earth. You’ll have to get your passport stamped, exchange your money, and follow their unique customs.
Hook: “Most people think you need a plane ticket to leave the United States, but I found a sovereign country hidden right in the middle of the Nevada desert.”
